Khenpo Tashi Sangpo was born in 1973 in Sakya, Tibet, where he received his early education.
At the age of ten, he entered the main monastery of Sakya, the Thubten Lhakhang Chenmo, and received his novice monk vows. He studied at the monastery until 1994, then moved to India, to Dehra Dun, home of the Sakya monastery and residence of H.H. Kyabgon Gongma Trichen Rinpoche. He then entered Sakya College, a high-level monastic university where he studied and deepened various aspects of Buddhist practice and philosophy. He concluded his studies in 2000, obtaining the degrees of “Kachu-pa” and “Loppön.”
He moved to Switzerland in May of the same year to become the resident monk of Thupten Changchup Ling in Arosio. He was then in charge of caring for the temple, carrying out daily rituals, and leading meditation sessions. In 2008, he travelled to India to take the vows of Bikshu, or fully ordained monk.
Before leaving his body (April 2014), Khenchen Sherab Gyaltsen Amipa designated Khenpo Tashi Sangpo as his successor in guiding the centers he founded in Europe. Since then, Khenpo Tashi has conferred teachings and initiations in all the European centers founded by Rinpoche.
On July 3, 2016, H.H. Kyabgon Gongma Trichen Rinpoche, during his visit to the European Sakya Tsechen Ling center in Kuttolsheim/Strasbourg, conferred the title of Khenpo (abbot) on Lama Tashi Sangpo Amipa as a sign of recognition of his commitment to managing the Sakya centers founded by Khenchen Sherab Gyaltsen Amipa.
