The association was founded by Khenchen Sherab Gyaltsen Amipa Rinpoche in November 1977 and is now continued by his successor, Khenpo Tashi Sangpo Amipa.
For decades, numerous students have had the exceptional opportunity to receive authentic teachings and initiations from Rinpoche and his successor, particularly within all four classes of Mahayana Buddhism, with a focus on the Tibetan Sakya tradition.
His Holiness Kyabgön Gongma Trichen Rinpoche also gave teachings and initiations in Freiburg at the invitation of Yeshe Chöling.
In addition, Venerable Khenpo Dakpa Woeser regularly visited to perform rituals in accordance with the Tibetan calendar.
Since its founding, the charitable purpose of the Yeshe Chöling Sakya Förderverein Freiburg e.V. has been to provide financial support to Tibetan refugees, as well as to educational and medical institutions in India and Nepal.
Alongside Khenpo Tashi Sangpo Amipa, other highly qualified teachers of Tibetan Buddhism in the Sakya tradition also offer regular teachings and seminars at Yeshe Chöling, accessible both online and in person for all who are interested.
