The Tibetan Buddhist Dharma Centre Sakya Künga Chöling in Trieste was founded on November 7, 1988, by the Venerable Khenchen Sherab Gyaltsen Amipa Rinpoche. It was established with the aim of practicing and disseminating the teachings of Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism, with particular emphasis on the Sakya school. The centre also seeks to foster interest in Tibetan culture while preserving its universal values.
Today, the Centre is under the guidance of the Venerable Khenpo Tashi Amipa Rinpoche, the successor of Venerable Khenchen Sherab Gyaltsen Amipa Rinpoche, who passed away on February 14, 2014.

The Sakya Centre in Trieste is directed by the nun Sherab Choden (Malvina Savio), who leads weekly courses on the fundamentals of Buddhism, meditation, spiritual retreats, religious ceremonies, and rituals. Meetings and practice sessions are also held based on the teachings of the Vietnamese monk Thich Nhat Hanh. In addition, the Centre offers courses in the Tibetan language and culture, as well as reflexology.

Operating within the Centre is the association “Progetto India Onlus,” which engages in humanitarian work through long-distance sponsorships of Tibetan refugees in India, support for school construction and essential infrastructure in refugee camps, and medical volunteer work aimed at alleviating the suffering of the residents.
