His Holiness Gyana Vajra Rinpoche, the youngest son of H.H. Kyabgon Gongma Trichen Rinpoche, was born on July 5, 1979, in Dehra Dun, India. He received his early education from Ven. Rinchen Sangpo, then studied at the Sakya Centre, the main monastery of H.H. Gongma Trichen, and finally completed his studies at Sakya College. He also received many major teachings and initiations from his father, H.H. Kyabgon Gongma Trichen Rinpoche.
Combining ancient wisdom with knowledge and a modern approach, his teaching style is unique, direct, and profound, relevant to our everyday reality, as complex Buddhist concepts are made accessible by him through examples that all students can easily understand. Rinpoche has decided to guide his students along the path of Dharma as a friend, his openness and sense of humour bring joy to all those in his presence.
Currently, one of his main activities concerns the Sakya Academy, a project of his that aims to provide young monks and nuns with a solid knowledge of Buddhism and at the same time a modern education, essential to help them relate to the outside world and make the study of Buddhist teachings relevant in the contemporary context.
In March 2022, His Holiness Gyana Vajra Rinpoche Ngawang Kunga Rinchen Khyentse Dorje officially became the 43rd Sakya Trizin.
