SUMMARY:MEDICINE BUDDHA - TEACHINGS & INITIATION
DESCRIPTION:Teachings by: KHENPO TASHI SANGPO \n\n\n\nDate: SAT-SUN / 28-29 JUNE \n\n\n\nTime: Saturday & Sunday 10.00 -12.00 & 14.00-16.00 \n\n\n\nPlace: Sakya Phuntsog Ling / Tournefeuille \n\n\n\nLanguage: ENAvailable translations: FR \n\n\n\n\nSickness is a common suffering of all living beings. However\, according to Tibetan medicine\, most illnesses are psychosomatic and\, according to Buddhism\, many types of mental and physical illnesses are actually generated largely by one’s unwholesome attitude\, and cannot be cured by conventional medicine alone; on the other side\, there’s a connection between wholesome thoughts\, your health and happiness.  \n\n\n\nThe Buddha taught a form of meditation for people suffering from diseases by using a practice of a sacred mantra and meditation based on Medicine Buddha. This profound meditation technique will complement any form of medical treatment\, and can reduce the side effects and increase the effectiveness of any medication.

What you think\, you become.” -Vasubandhu \n\n\n\nThe Buddha’s teachings are traditionally classified into three collections: Vinaya\, Sutra\, and Abhidharma.  \n\n\n\nAbhidharma is a collection of the Buddha’s highest teachings focused on wisdom training. It examines the nature of reality\, the mind\, and mental phenomena\, guiding us toward a deeper understanding of the nature of reality. Its profound insights into the workings of consciousness and the essence of existence\, provide a comprehensive framework for understanding Buddhist psychology and philosophy across all three vehicles or yanas. \n\n\n\nIn this course\, His Holiness the 42nd Sakya Trizin will focus on the Treasury of Abhidharma or Abhidharmakośa\, authored by Vasubandhu\, a prominent Indian Buddhist scholar and master from the 4th or 5th century. Abhidharmakośa\, considered one of the thirteen great texts utilized as the core curriculum in most traditional Tibetan Buddhist centers for teaching or shedras\, serves as a seminal work in the Mahayana tradition. It provides a structured overview of Abhidharma teachings and is extensively studied by all Tibetan traditions. \n\n\n\nThe vast teachings of Abhidharma and Buddhist psychology provide a path to a clear and deep view of the nature of reality\, bringing us closer to understanding our minds and freeing ourselves from suffering. The study of\, including texts like the Abhidharmakośa\, equips practitioners with invaluable insights and tools to deepen their spiritual journey\, foster wisdom\, and lead a more meaningful and fulfilling life. \n\n\n\nThese lessons will bring you closer to: \n\n\n\n  •  A deeper understanding of your emotions and thoughts.  •  Cultivating a stable meditation practice.  •  Distilling the profound teachings of Tibetan Buddhism.  •  Learning about the doctrinal differences between the ancient Buddhist schools.  •  Exploring consciousness and mental processes.  •  Analysing the nature of reality.  •  Connecting with the law of karma\, impermanence\, and emptiness. \n\n\n\nThe reference texts can be downloaded HERE \n\n\n\nJoin us at the temple in Arosio (CH):Please register at least two days before the event to participate in person in Arosio (using the link below). \n\n\n\n\nAROSIO\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister in advance for this meeting on Zoom at least one day in advance. You will receive a confirmation email from “Sakya Dharma Family Admin” with the Zoom link to participate (click “Click Here To Join”) on the day of the event. \n\n\n\n\nZOOM

SUMMARY:THE DEEP PATH OF MEDITATION IN TIBETAN BUDDHISM: SAMATHA\, VIPASSANA AND THE CORE INSTRUCTIONS
DESCRIPTION:Teachings by: MIKE BORTOLOTTI \n\n\n\nDate: FRI-SUN / 23 – 25 MAY \n\n\n\nTime: Friday: 19:30 – 21:00 hrs.\, Sat/Sun: 10:00-12:00 & 14:30-16:30 hrs. \n\n\n\nPlace: Sakya Thegchen Ling\, Den Haag/The Netherlands \n\n\n\nLanguage: EN \n\n\n\nAvailable translations: NL \n\n\n\n\nCosts: € 11 (per session)/€ 55 (per weekend)\, for minima € 5 (per session)/€ 25 (per weekend). If this contribution is still too much for you\, please contact the treasurer of Sakya Thegchen Ling. You can transfer the amount in advance to bank account number NL83 TRIO 0197 7958 03 in the name of Sakya Thegchen Ling The Hague\, stating ‘weekend Mike Bortolotti’. \n\n\n\nLunches: Saturday and Sunday\, you are invited to have lunch at the centre. \n\n\n\nBy practising authentic meditation\, we can effectively transform our minds. Intellectual knowledge is indispensable to understand the right path\, but if it is not accompanied by an authentic meditative experience\, we will not be able to control our mind and disturbing emotions. Integrating knowledge and meditation is the secret of spiritual development. This has allowed many practitioners to achieve realisation. At the same time\, this is the biggest challenge for Westerners\, who tend to get lost\, intellectual knowledge is then at best combined with a weak meditative ability. \n\n\n\nDuring this weekend\, we study the main meditative methods of Tibetan Buddhism and learn to distinguish the different approaches. We start with instruction on Samatha\, the basis of all meditation\, and then cover Vipassana\, the transcendental insight. Samatha and Vipassana finally lead to the deep core instructions\, through which we train ourselves to dwell in open awareness and recognise the true nature of mind. \n\n\n\nReference texts: \n\n\n\nSelf Liberating Meditation\, Patrul Rinpoche. \n\n\n\nMeditation in the Himalayan Buddhist Tradition\, Khorchak Tulku Rinpoche. \n\n\n\nClick here to register

Ratna Vajra Rinpoche with translation \n\n\n\n20.30: Meditation: contemplation of the topics discussed and rest in the empty presence. \n\n\n\nYou can write any questions you may have on the subject HERE. Khenpo Tashi will occasionally answer them in question-answer sessions. \n\n\n\nAbout the Program  \n\n\n\nFrom the Buddhist perspective\, engaging in the progressive steps of study\, contemplation\, and meditation acquaints us with wisdom\, empowering us with the potential to become great practitioners. The Dharma Chakra Program (DCP) is designed to provide the indispensable elements of the philosophical tradition in a succinct manner. This program is an extraordinary opportunity to develop a deep understanding of the main tenets of classical Buddhist philosophy through one of the most esteemed erudites of our time\, His Holiness the 42nd Sakya Trizin\, Ratna Vajra Rinpoche.  \n\n\n\nThis extended study program provides the everyday practitioner in the modern world with rare access to the essence of Mahayana philosophy through an unbroken lineage\, a privilege traditionally available only in monastic universities.  \n\n\n\nWhat You’ll Learn \n\n\n\nYear 1: Abhidharma  \n\n\n\nYear 2: Bodhisattvacharyavatara Chapters 1 – 6Year 3: Bodhisattvacharyavatara Chapters 7 – 10Year 4: MadhyamakaYear 5: Uttaratantra \n\n\n\nThe Dharma Chakra Program in the European centres founded by Khenchen Sherab: \n\n\n\nThe Dharma Chakra Program is an initiative of the Sachen Foundation and can be followed online in English by anyone via their dedicated website:  \n\n\n\nwww.sachenfoundation.org/dharmachakra/ \n\n\n\nIn our centres we offer about two meetings per month\, both in presence and online\, where we listen together to the teachings of H.H. Ratna Vajra Rinpoche with translation into Italian\, French\, German and Dutch. After the teachings there will be a 30-minute meditation in which we can reflect on the topics covered and then rest a while in the empty presence.  \n\n\n\nThere will be occasional question-and-answer sessions with Khenpo Tashi. Questions should be submitted through this form. On the Sachen Foundation website dedicated to this study programme\, you will find additional material in English on the topics discussed\, which we will also use in our meetings if necessary. \n\n\n\nFirst Year: Abhidharma (22 lessons) \n\n\n\n“The mind is everything.
